In loving response to the unmerited favor of God through Jesus Christ, the Music Ministry of FBC Richmond seeks to encourage the people of God to sing and make melody to the Lord in their hearts (Ephesians 5:19).
In Sunday morning worship, congregational singing is reflective of our belief that true worship is participatory. While we celebrate the work of our Sanctuary Choir, the congregation gives an all-inclusive voice in praise to God. The Celebrating Grace Hymnal is our single most-used source of congregational song and covers a very broad range of musical expression.
In addition to congregational singing, FBC has a passionate Sanctuary Choir that robes up and sings almost every Sunday morning. While open to young and old alike, this choir is composed primarily of adults. The repertoire for this group is usually SATB and leans primarily to traditional choral music including the works of composers from Bach to Getty. Auditions are not required for this choir that rehearses on Wednesday nights.
We are blessed to have a talented ensemble of handbell ringers covering three octaves. This group rehearses during the school year and rings about ten times in Sunday morning worship and often during Advent and Holy Week.
For our children and families, Wednesday nights during the school year are alive with singing, drumming, ringing, and dancing! Family Music Time is the arena for children birth through preschool. G.I.G. (Growing in Grace) is the place for children Kindergarten through the fifth grade. Our children are also an important group that occasionally leads the congregation in worship on Sunday mornings.
In and through all of this, we celebrate the Christ who was, is, and is to come.
